BIBLICAL SEXUAL MORALITY

American standards, mores, and laws concerning sexual practices have changed greatly during my lifetime. Those things which were once both illegal and socially unacceptable are now common place, condoned, and even protected.

Human morality has changed, and human laws have been repealed, but God has not amended His Word. There are laws higher than those which our Congress can pass. There are penalties which even our Supreme Court cannot overturn.

God's unchanging Word has the same message for us today as it had for the church at Corinth more than 1900 years ago. The Apostle Paul wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit:

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

For those not familiar with Biblical terminology, I will briefly explain the meaning of the words that are germane to our discussion.

A fornicator is one who violates God's law and becomes "sexually active" without the benefit of marriage. We may call it living together, shacking up, trial-marriage, free-love, or what have you, but God still calls it sin.

An adulterer is a married person who violates the sanctity of the marriage bond by becoming "sexually involved" with someone other than his mate. Again, we may call it having an affair, or messing around, but God still calls it sin.

The effeminate, and abusers of themselves with mankind are today called "gay." There is, however, nothing gay about AIDS, the astronomical suicide rate amongst sodomites, nor the filth of the homosexual life-style. We may call it an alternate life-style, but God still calls it sin.

Many pulpits in America are silent concerning these sins, and some openly condone them. False prophets are shamelessly involved in such sin and continue to preach from their pulpits. Many churches receive into their membership those who are actively practicing one of these damning sins. Others will take no action to remove such open rebels against God's law from their membership. God, however, has spoken clearly concerning their fate. Such may be received into or be maintained in an apostate church, but they shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

There is, however, hope for those who are alienated from God, whether by one of these or any other sin. And we do well to remember that all sin alienates from God and all men are born sinners. The passage of Scripture cited above continues:

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)

The glorious message of Scripture is that there is forgiveness of sin. Such were some of the chosen of God. But by the grace of God, they have been washed, they have been sanctified, they have been justified!

Friend, if you are involved in one of these despicable sins I pray that God will give you repentance from your sins and faith in the atoning death of His Son Jesus Christ. All men have incurred a debt against a Holy God, a debt which they could never repay. Jesus Christ paid that debt for those who will come in repentance and faith.
